Hey mamas,
Sarah here. I know you all think of me as pure sweetness and light, but there’s something about me you likely don’t know. I can be a real five alarm fire. And not in a fun way. As my coach once put it:
“Sarah, you bring atom bombs to knife fights.
Last week I had one of those incongruous “atom bomb” moments. (Truth be told, it was more like an hour.) I got really upset about something. Really upset. To be clear – my reaction didn’t match the thing I was upset about. Here’s an actual picture of me on the day:
I knew it and I was struggling in the upset – trying hard to get out of it, fighting like a fish on a hook – until I surrendered. I had to sit in the extreme discomfort of my anger, rage and shame. The more I allowed, the more space inside me opened up, and I began to feel better. I was able to remember that, even when I want to burn it down, I love people. My relationships are more important than my hurt feelings. And it hit me (for the one millionth time) that the only way around is through.
That bears repeating, ladies.
Now, this all occurred early on Thursday morning and as grace and the scheduling gods would have it – I had my call with my coach at 11AM. I shared with her what had happened and she said, “makes sense.” Why?
When things are moving really fast, I hold on TIGHTER. On a “normal” day, I overfunction. On a Covid day – while applying for a grant and launching a new business while running another and homeschooling – I’m into SUPERHUMAN HYPER SPEED. Everything is amped up, including my reactions. When I’m moving through life at 150mph, I react with 150lbs of pressure.
Things that make you go hmmmmm . . .
So I’m practicing grace this week. Giving myself space. Leaning into gratitude. I’m grateful.
How about you? Where do you need more space and grace? Where are you overfunctioning? We’d love to hear about it.
With all the love and lusciousness in our hearts,
PS – That grant I mentioned? Today, JUST NOW, we made it to *THE TOP 6* finalists out of 200 applicants. They announce the winner on May 26th. We worked our hineys off on this application.

Hey, mama. Twenty years ago, over a period of mere minutes, a beautiful weekday morning on the east coast became an American nightmare. Terrorists weaponized airplanes filled with civilians and used them to destroy buildings filled with people who were simply going to work. An average day, ordinary people, in locations presumed to be safe. […]
Mama, it’s us. The women of LUMO, coming to share wisdom and maternally-fueled career and leadership goodness. Last week we posed the question: What did you learn about work from motherhood? This week’s answers are FIRE. LUMO Coach Jayme said: Motherhood taught me to set my priorities in alignment with my values. Before, it was all about what […]
